5 - 6 May | M21 ‘From the Medieval to the 21st Century’ Disability Live art event
Based at the Priory Hall with events happening throughout the streets of Much Wenlock

Disability Live art event. From the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games comes M21: From the Medieval to the 21st Century. But is Much Wenlock only about pretty black and white buildings and living history in Middle England? M21 brings together the history of this small Shropshire town with the politics of live art to confront the reality of modern rural living. Renowned disabled artists Tanya Raabe, Alan McLean, Simon McKeown, Sean Burn, Noëmi Lakmaier, Ann Whitehurst and the Disabled Avant-Garde explore climate change, country living and historic practices through a disability aesthetic.

Riding Lights Theatre presents (as part of its national tour) a new, extraordinary piece of theatre about the revival of the modern Olympic Games. This is theatre with a spiritual heart, for everyone.

The Much Wenlock Festival takes place every two years in this historic Shropshire market town. Our 2012 festival will be very special as the town celebrates its Olympian heritage.

9 - 10 June | Tom Sabin Commemorative Cycle Ride
Coventy to Much Wenlock

This is a challenging ride for the experienced cyclist, starting from Coventry on Saturday 9th June and proceeding to Much Wenlock, an outward journey of 100 miles, stopping off overnight in the historic Shropshire town and returning on Sunday 10th June taking a shorter route of 86 miles. 16 June | Live Arts Celebration Concert

24 June | Brookes Inspiration Safari

2.30pm at the Torch Memorial on the Gaskell Fields, then along the Brookes Walk and shorter routes, and to the Church Green. You may spot the President of the Methodist Conference jogging by with an Olympian Torch, in this running, trundling, walking event for all ages. The Brookes Inspiration Service follows at 4.00pm in Holy Trinity Church, with a sports personality as speaker, and refreshments. It's More than Gold.

Contemporary Art Medals. An exhibition including 6 international and 6 British art medallists curated by Ron Dutton. Student prize of £250, the winning medal will be awarded to Wenlock Olympian Society. Collectors prints - British printmakers. Featured new jewellers - Gerlinde Huth and Syan van Niftrik.

7 July | Midlands Glory Concert 
Museum of Iron, Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge Gorge

Wenlock Olympian Society and Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust are proud to support this spectacular concert celebrating the startling achievements in sport, industry and the arts across the Midlands. The City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will be joined by special star guests from the Midlands region in a concert of classical, rock, rap and soul music spanning two hundred years.

It was in 1850 that the first ever Olympian Games were held in Much Wenlock. The brainchild of Dr William Penny Brookes, the games inspired re-birth of the modern Olympic Games in 1896. The Wenlock games continue to be held on the original field every July attracting competitors from all over the UK.

8 July | Over the Edge, the Marathon and Half Marathon of the 2012 Wenlock Olympian Games.
Linear off road routes along Wenlock Edge, finishing in Much Wenlock. Optional coach to start. Marathon £25, Half Marathon £15.

11 July | Olympic Welcome Song Performance
Wenlock Priory

The Welcome Song project is a collaboration between West Midlands, South West and South East, led by folk musician  Eliza Carthy and will be performed in Much Wenlock, Chipping Campden, Weymouth, Stoke Mandeville and Olympic Park.

14 July | Wenlock Olympian Games Celebration

A new event to celebrate Much Wenlock's Olympian heritage. Street markets, entertainment and exhibitions will take place around the town during the weekend of Wenlock Olympian Games.

19 - 22 July | Encompass
The Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock

A dance and digital media extravaganza that makes links across continents and wraps dancing images around the audience. Different styles of dance will collide, merge and collaborate. Experience film, live performance, digital installations and a breath taking finale show in a huge 360-degree digital igloo. Encompass360 has connected people all around the world with local and international performers live and on-screen. This will be an experience not to be missed. Encompass360 is part of Dancing for the Games, which is inspired by London 2012 and part of the Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands.
